Collection: Citrine
The Gem of Sunlight, Joy, and Abundance
Citrine is sunshine in gemstone form. With its warm hues of golden yellow, honey orange, and soft amber, Citrine radiates positivity, energy, and confidence. Often called the “merchant’s stone” for its association with prosperity and success, Citrine is both one of the most affordable and most uplifting gems in the quartz family.
Whether worn for its cheerful beauty or its deeper symbolism, Citrine is a timeless favorite—inviting light and warmth into both jewelry and life.
🔬 Scientific Profile
Citrine is the yellow-to-orange variety of crystalline quartz, with the chemical formula SiO₂. Its color is caused by trace amounts of iron in the crystal structure, and it belongs to the trigonal crystal system.
Citrine ranks 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, making it durable and ideal for everyday jewelry. It has a refractive index of 1.544 to 1.553 and a specific gravity of about 2.65. Most gem-quality Citrine is highly transparent and can be cut in a wide range of shapes and sizes.
Natural Citrine is rare. Much of what’s sold as Citrine today is heat-treated Amethyst or Smoky Quartz—a practice that enhances the golden color and creates a stable, permanent result. Heat-treated material is chemically identical to natural Citrine and is accepted within the gem trade.
🌞 Color and Variety
Citrine’s color spectrum ranges from pale lemon yellow to rich honey gold, deep orange, and even reddish-brown. The most prized color is a vibrant, saturated golden-orange often referred to in the trade as “Madeira Citrine,” named after the fortified wine it resembles.
Lighter yellow stones are more common and tend to be more affordable. These soft shades have a gentle, calming feel that makes them especially popular in minimalist and vintage-inspired jewelry.
Deep orange-to-brown hues are less common and often fetch higher prices—particularly when cut with precision and set in warm gold.
Citrine is typically eye-clean, with high transparency and brilliance. Its large natural crystal size allows for bold designer cuts and statement pieces without the premium pricing of other golden gemstones like topaz or yellow sapphire.
📜 History and Symbolism
Citrine has been used in jewelry since ancient times. The Romans prized it for its resemblance to topaz and carved it into intaglios and cabochons. During the Art Deco era of the early 20th century, Citrine became a favorite among Hollywood stars and designers who used large, dramatic Citrine stones in glamorous cocktail jewelry.
Historically, Citrine has been associated with wealth, manifestation, and personal power. It’s often referred to as the “Success Stone” or “Merchant’s Stone,” said to attract prosperity and financial growth—especially when placed in cash registers or carried during business transactions.
In metaphysical traditions, Citrine is linked to the solar plexus chakra, believed to promote clarity of thought, self-confidence, creativity, and emotional balance. It is thought to dissipate negative energy and protect against fear and anxiety.
Citrine is the birthstone for November and also commemorates the 13th wedding anniversary.
💎 Citrine in Jewelry
Citrine is a designer’s dream. Its durability, affordability, and brilliance allow it to be fashioned into nearly every jewelry type—rings, earrings, bracelets, and pendants. It pairs beautifully with warm metals like yellow and rose gold, enhancing its golden glow, but it also stands out in white gold or platinum for a crisp, modern contrast.
Citrine is commonly cut into ovals, cushions, emerald shapes, and rounds, but its large natural crystal size makes it ideal for creative fantasy cuts and large-format jewelry.
Because of its inviting color and symbolic associations, Citrine is often used in bohemian, vintage, and wellness-inspired designs. But it’s equally at home in luxury, fine-jewelry settings when paired with diamonds or other colored stones.
For clients seeking a vibrant, warm-colored gem with both visual and spiritual appeal, Citrine is one of the best values in the gem world.
